Apr\u00e8s, Xavier Hyst\u00e9rose a dit qu’il ne mangeait pas de porc, et qu’il n’\u00e9tait pas (plus?) ath\u00e9e. Ses soeurs et moi \u00e9tions assez choqu\u00e9s, sur le ton de \u00abet ton marxisme?\u00bb Evidemment, ce n’\u00e9tait pas tr\u00e8s d\u00e9licat, et Xavier a ressenti je crois beaucoup de violence majoritaire et de solitude. <\/p>\n

Ca a r\u00e9veill\u00e9 le souvenir d’une importante conversation<\/a> que j’avais eue avec Alex STAPS. J’en avais tir\u00e9 la conclusion que la tol\u00e9rance lib\u00e9rale est, personnellement, vis-\u00e0-vis de ma grand’m\u00e8re ou de mes amis, la voie plus confortable et moins glissante. Mais je donne raison \u00e0 Fran\u00e7ois B2 pour dire que la fronti\u00e8re entre l’exercice priv\u00e9 et l’ing\u00e9rence politique est artificielle ou fragile. <\/p>\n

Autre conclusion de l’\u00e9poque que je conserve, Xavier a s\u00fbrement raison de concevoir son affirmation identitaire juive, comme hier et aujourd’hui son identit\u00e9 p\u00e9d\u00e9e, comme un pav\u00e9 jet\u00e9 dans la vitrine du conformisme h\u00e9t\u00e9ro\/catho. Pourtant je ne peux (mais c’est aussi le confort du majoritaire sur ce point), comme BoxingBoy, faire sans regret mon deuil du monde r\u00eav\u00e9 d’hier, de la r\u00e9publique d’\u00e9gaux. L’identit\u00e9 donne du sel mais la commensalit\u00e9 dresse la table. <\/p>\n

Surtout, la d\u00e9rive de nos positions respectives, dont j’avais senti le mouvement \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque, mais pour un avenir lointain, s’accomplit rapidement. Je pense \u00e0 ces amis de mon p\u00e8re qui ne se sont plus fr\u00e9quent\u00e9s pour ce genre de raisons; au r\u00f4le \u00abcentriste\u00bb, presque diplomatique, de va-et-vient que mon p\u00e8re a finalement pris entre eux. Fran\u00e7ois B2 pense qu’il appellera Dieu sur son lit de mort; Xavier relira sans doute les ex\u00e9g\u00e8ses kabbalistiques de Madonna; et BoxingBoy fera une fin \u00e0 la Verlaine (prison, renaissance mystique). Resterai-je ath\u00e9e de bout en bout?

\nThen Xavier Hysterosy said that he didn\u2019t eat pork, and that he wasn\u2019t (anymore?) an atheist. His sisters and I were quite shocked, in a \u201cwhat happened to your Marxism?\u201d tone. Quite obviously this wasn\u2019t delicate, and Xavier felt I think a lot of majority violence and loneliness. <\/p>\n

It has awakened the memory of an important conversation<\/a> that I had with Alex STAPS. I had then drawn the conclusion that liberal tolerance is, in personal matters, toward my grandmother or friends, the most comfortable and least slippery path. But I side with Fran\u00e7ois B2 to say that the line is artificial and fragile between private practice and political meddling. <\/p>\n

Another then conclusion that I keep: Xavier is certainly right to conceive of his Jewish identity assertion (as yesterday and today his faggot identity) as a cat set among the pigeons of straight\/RC conformism. And yet like BoxingBoy I cannot (but it\u2019s also the comfy side of being in the majority on this point) mourn with no regrets the dreamt world of yesterday, the Republic of equals. Identity is the spice but commensality lays the table. <\/p>\n

What is more, the drift of our respective positions, of which I felt the movement at the time, but set in a distant future, is fulfilling itself quickly. I think of these friends of my father\u2019s who haven\u2019t seen each other anymore for that kind of reasons; of the \u201ccentrist\u201d, almost diplomatic back-and-forth role my father has finally taken to play among them. Fran\u00e7ois B2 thinks he will call God on his deathbed, Xavier will probably reread Madonna\u2019s Cabbala exegeses, and BoxingBoy will settle down Verlaine style (prison, mystic rebirth). Will I stay an atheist from start to finish? <\/p>\n
